Fall Fever! Ready to JUMP in!

Wahoo!  I sooooo love FALL!  The weather is already turning. Nights are getting cooler.  Air is crisper! Football season is in FULL swing!  (Goooooo DAWGS...please spank some LSU tigers this weekend!!!) Fires are blazing in the pit outside!  Smores (well---to be honest---peeps in this case!  You know, the Easter blue chicks. Seriously! You would be surprised what I'll resort too when I need a smores fix!!!  Don't knock it until you are ridiculously desperate and can find NOTHING else until you try it!  That sugar caramelizes on the outside and it makes for an interestingly tasty treat!) are being roasted!  FALL--- it's just a beautiful thing!

So...in direct response to MY personal FALL FEVER...we created a pack with the same loving name!  It's 40 pages of goodies that you can use to bring the fall fever right into your classroom.  The pack is in the same spirit as our letter word work packs chocked full of literacy activities that are perfect for small group work, centers, stations, or in our case ---Daily 5 work work!
Click ANY picture to head to our TpT store to grab the pack!

Here's the whole kit and caboodle!

As always, please leave us a comment and let us know what you think.  Anything in particular you like, something we should add, your favorite thing about fall...

We'll choose 2 winners to snag this pack for FREE!

Hope you get the FALL FEVER bug soon---if it hasn't bitten you already! ;)

It's the Little Things that EXCITE us!

OK...so if you think it's a bit sad for a person to get excited about a ONE DOLLAR FLY SWATTER...then I would generally be in agreement!

BUT...people...I found the most stinkin' awesome fly swatters at Wal-mart today for ONE BUCK!  I was happily rolling along with my binders, pocket files, ink...you know...boring stuff...when out of the corner of my eye these babies were screaming at me!

I love the bright colors and knew they would be a hit with my kinder kiddos right off the bat.

NOW---I had to find a REAL reason to get them, other than the fact they were cute and cheap.

So here's my plan of action:

Since they came in 2 colors, I figured we can use these to  play games.  Each player has a different color swatter thus there will be an ORANGE player and a TEAL player.  I am thinking they will need a 3rd kid to be the "caller".

Then the possibilities are WIDE OPEN!

*Lay out sight word cards on the floor.  Caller has a set of matching cards.  They call out a word and the 1st kiddo to hit the correct word, "SPLAT", wins the card.  The kiddo with the most cards, wins the game!

*Make 2 cards...one that says FACT and one that says FICTION.  Read, or make up, a paragraph or even just a sentence that you tell the kiddos.  The first one to hit (SPLAT!) whether it's fact or fiction, wins the card!

*Make 2 cards that say "Sentence" or "NOT a Sentence".  Read, or make up, sentences or phrases.  The first one to SPLAT the correct one wins the card.

*You get the picture...endless possibilities!

*I was thinking I would lay out my number line on the floor.  Then use flash cards to play.  So if I were working on number words I would give the caller a stack of words zero to twenty.  They would show the 2 kiddos the word and the first one to hit the right # gets the card.

*Use it for addition and subtraction.  Show addition equations and they "SPLAT" the answer!

*Tell them a number and they SPLAT the number that is "one more", "one less", "two more"...

*Endless possibilities!

I actually bought 8 swatters so I could have several kiddos playing at once.  I am sure I can think of a way to use ALL of them at  once, but haven't made it that far. :)

Now...do you guys have any more ideas for how we can use these AWESOME "Finds of the Day"?

Also, I was thinking I may create the cards needed to play the games just so I wouldn't have to come up with sentences/phrases or equations...off the top of my head.  Or so I could leave it for a sub to do.

Would you guys be interested in something like this as a product to purchase?  Or totally not necessary?  Would love to get your opinion!

New Laptop! Fire Safety! XYZ Pack and Freebie!

Yahoo People!!! I got a new laptop!! Yay... no more having to use pink polka dot duct tape to hold the power cord in place. Too bad the pink duct tape didn't work that well since when I would sneeze or move, the computer would turn off. Yes, I did use it this way for about 5 months!!

Also, no more having to type on a full size external keyboard attached by USB because the g, h, and several other keys are missing! Yes, the smallest man of the house decided to pound on the keyboard about a year and 1/2 ago and it has not worked since. So thanks to one of my former student's adorable Dad and Mom for sending me the USB keyboard to use until I finally broke down and bought a new laptop TODAY!

On another note---We have a new Fire Marshall in town and he means business! While we appreciate his concern and efforts to make our school as safe as possible, we are pretty devastated at our recent changes!  This fellow is HARD CORE!

You are not going to believe it! You may even pass out--- NO fridge or microwave in the classrooms ANYMORE!! (Probably no microwaves with good reason because Cristy kept stinking up the place by burning popcorn!---but don't tell the fire marshall!)  How will we conduct edible science experiments and solve edible math problems? More importantly--- how will I keep my Diet Coke COLD!!!

There's more! We are a sprinkler free school. So, that means only 20% of the walls can be covered with stuff (art work, commentary, standards, student writing, etc...)! All of it is fuel!  BOOHOO! We love to cover our room and the halls with all of our students' amazing work and now we have to be selective. It is so hard to choose! We want it ALL!

Do you have regulations about how much wall space you can cover? Do you get to have a fridge or microwave in your room?  Do you have a Fire Marshall that's HARD CORE?  Waaahhh!

Anyway, we are still trying to keep our teaching on course even with all the Fire Marshall hoopla!

We just finished our X,Y, and Z Word Work Literacy Stations and Centers! We decided to combine the three letters so we could have more words to choose from. It would be too boring to have to use the same 10-15 words on every game/activity.

Check out our preview below. Also we included a freebie morning work sheet! Grab it if you like :).

Have a great weekend friends!!! Tell us what you are up to!

That's right.  Going out on a limb here and giving Rafflecopter a go!  I know, I know...all the cool kids use it!  What can I say...I have just been a wee bit intimidated by it.

So we are going to go pretty basic on this first attempt.  We are going to give away one of our OWN bundles with products worth $23!

I will be staying in town hanging with the fam, while Page is kickin' it old school in Disney!!  That's right...Disney!  First a week of fun.  Then the Princess 1/2 Marathon!  Gooooo Page!!!

So while chicky is out laughing, smiling, eating cotton candy and other tasty treats, poor little me has been left behind to CREATE!!!!  Seriously...I actually LOVE getting left behind sometimes.  True! ...peace and quiet...long stretches of time to make new stuff...creative juices get to flowing!  Seriously...I'm a little bit nerdy in this regard!  But I stand proud none-the-less!  NERDS UNITE!  (OK...so maybe I am still a teensy bit jealous that I'm not in Disney...but maybe Page will bring me a set of those Minnie ears or something!)

So...what have I been creating you ask.  Or maybe you are not asking, but you KNOW I am gonna tell anyways! :)

Friday...ahhhh! and a Giveaway!

Whew!!!  Thank goodness it's Friday!

***Read all the way to the bottom...a freebie is up for grabs!  I have to say this in emails I send to Page.  She only reads the first line or two and then moves on!  I have learned my lesson! :)

We had an awesome week at school, but these 2 chickys (is that even a word?) have been staying up WAY too late at night!  Thanks to Tierra (that woman is a crack-a-la-kah!) over at The Bachelor.  Can you say train wreck????

But--can't--take--our--eyes--off!!!!!  Must--look--away!

Brain--cells--getting--sucked--out--as--we--watch!!! ;)

So we are super excited about staying up late again tonight...just because we CAN...and sleeping in in the morning!  Well... maybe me anyway...Page has a little one at home that DOES NOT believe in sleeping in!!!  What's up with that little man?

Hope you all had a great week and an even better weekend.  Here's something that might make it fun!

Our New Favorite Thing!!!

Oh...my...goodness!  We LOVE these stinkin' dry erase CRAYONS!!!!

Who knew?  We've been using dry erase markers for-eh-vah!  But I tell you...these little crayon babies are the cat's meow!!!

Top 6 Reasons we LOVE (with a capital L-O-V-E!!!) these babies:

#6:  Because we are teachers, and that's just what we do.  Love new goodies!!!

#5:  They were given to us for FREE at a workshop!  Who doesn't love some FREEEEE!!!!

#4:  They are big and fat and big and colorful...and did we mention BIG?  They don't snap in 1/2 like most crayons!  Is it just our kiddos?  Maybe they work out or something...but they can't break these babies!

#3:  No caps to lose...ever!  These babies DO NOT DRY OUT either!!!

#2:  They come with their very own little black cleaning cloth!  Now we don't have to keep using all our tissues up!  Those things are expensive I tell you.  And on a bad day, 20 kiddos can seriously use 1,000 tissues!!!

And the #1 Reason we LOVE (with a capital L-O-V-E!!!) these dry erase crayons...

well people...

they actually are DRY (which means they don't smear ALL over the kiddos hands and sleeves as they drag their arm across their work space) and they actually ERASE (not the smeary, smudgy, leaves nasty gunk all over the work space kind of erase...but fo' real erase!)!!!

Clean, brand new game... ready to play!

Awesome work!  Not sure "hents" is a word...but darn good effort!
Look how awesome these thingys write!  Bright and bold!  No smearing!

This is the SAME board people...not...a...trace...of....gunk...left!  LOVE!

Boo!!  Hiss!  This is what our boards looked like before!
Still love some dry erase markers...just not in this case!!!  Did I already say... BOO!  HISS!!

We LOVE them!    So not sure if this is a helpful post, but dang it...we just had to show the love for these babies!!!  Now RUN out and get some.  And buy some for us too if you find a good deal!!! ;)  Cause we were not paid to give our testimony...none...at...all!

PS---Totally random picture coming at you!  One of my dads cows just had a new baby calf...only a week or two old.  SOOOOO cute!  Just thought you may enjoy!
